Despite virtually no change over 1999 in the amount of basic annual compensation paid to outside members of U.S. boards in 2000, the addition of stock payments increases the total paid by $21,300 in the manufacturing sector and $12,250 in the service sector. Stock options, stock ownership, board meetings, functioning and composition of U.S. corporate boards are reviewed in this annual update of Conference Board Inc. research.
